Debut Exhibition: Colours of Ulysses (Episode II)

Saturday 2nd December 2023 at Hunguest Hotel, Nyíregyháza-Sóstó, Hungary (my new hometown)

They’re done! 18 new artworks inspired by pages 28-44 of James Joyce’s book, Ulysses. These 18 pages make up the chapter, or, better known as, Episode II ‘Nestor’.

On Saturday 2nd December 2023 I exhibited all 18 abstract artworks at the Hunguest Hotel, Nyíregyháza-Sóstó. The Hunguest is a newly built hotel in our local area and it seemed like the perfect place to invite my new neighbours and friends to see why I have paint all over my hands and clothes every time they see me!!

Irish Ambassador Ragnar Almqvist

It was an honour to have the Ambassador to Ireland for Hungary, his excellency, Mr Ragnar Almqvist attend my first solo exhibition. Ambassador Almqvist opened the exhibition with a wonderful speech telling the guests how he used to conduct James Joyce walking tours in Dublin. How apt is that!

Ambassador Almqvist has also become a member of the Colours of Ulysses family, as he brought home #030 for his own private art collection.

Ireland really is just a big village!

Ambassador Almqvist also spoke about the fact that I went to school with his wife, Ailbhe Keeting! That’s right! Ailbhe and I both attended The King’s Hospital School in the late 90s. Ailbhe was just one year ahead of me, we were both day pupils and both big time art and design enthusiasts.

It was a fantastic evening

Within an hour we had over 50 guests attend, we had beautiful, Diana Krall‘s soft jazz playing in the background, gorgeous Hungarian wine flowing, and a kid’s corner so that the parents could relax, it really was a great night.

A special thanks…

To my fantastic husband, Orosz László, for not only making all the display stands for the exhibition, planning the layout and doing all the heavy lifting but also, being my go-between, my translator, my emotional support and everything in between. Thank you handsome hub 😘
