#028 ‘Livid Final Flame’

This captivating soft yellow abstract painting takes its inspiration from the haunting imagery of James Joyce’s Ulysses (page 28): “gorescared book,” “blank window,” “shattered glass,” and “livid final flame.” The painting weaves together delicate shades of pastel yellow with streaks of muted gray and faint amber, embodying a fragile balance between despair and renewal. Subtle cracks and layered textures mimic shattered glass, while soft glows of yellow evoke the flickering light of a final flame, resilient yet fleeting.

Yellow, in the language of color psychology, represents hope, intellect, and illumination. Its softer tones convey gentleness and introspection, offering a sense of comfort and clarity even in moments of uncertainty. This painting channels the duality of yellow: the warmth of light against the shadows of adversity, a perfect reflection of Joyce’s poignant juxtaposition of fragility and resilience.

Ideal for spaces of reflection—such as a reading nook, bedroom, or creative studio—this painting invites both thoughtfulness and quiet optimism. Add “Livid Final Flame” to your collection and let its tender, luminous energy infuse your space with the subtle beauty of light breaking through life’s cracks.
