“You’re mad!” they said. That’s how I knew I was onto a good thing…

“You’re mad!” they said. That’s how I knew I was onto a good thing when I announced my 20-year Ulysses project last summer.

A big welcome to all of you who are new here 👋 In case I’m new to you, I’m Natalie Forrester, an Irish artist based in rural Hungary, and I’m creating one artwork per page of James Joyce’s book Ulysses.

Yes! That’s right! I’m creating one artwork per page of James Joyce’s book, Ulysses. Only the greatest novel of the twentieth century… no pressure then 😅

The edition I’m drawing my inspiration from is Penguin, it has 933 pages in total. So, I estimate it’ll take the best part of two decades to compete.

Are you a colour lover?

I’m obsessed with colour, 🎨 are you? I investigate how colour makes us feel. My Ulysses series of artworks is called “The Colours of Ulysses” as I seek the colours in Joyce’s text and give them an alternative life in abstract art. One page at a time.

I completed chapter/episode 1, the first 27 artworks / pages just on time for Bloomsday 2023. Many of the original artworks have been sold already. They’ve found their new forever home 🏡 living with art collectors, Joyceans and colour lovers alike.

I’m currently working on Episode 2, scroll down and sign up for my emails to be the first to see them.
